Roman Mukhin, an employee at a major steel company, is urged by his management to adopt a child to advance his career. Hoping it will also mend their strained marriage, he and his wife choose 11-year-old Marta, a quiet, determined girl who dreams of visiting India. Though hesitant to leave her hometown and her grandmother, Marta agrees after receiving her grandmother's blessing. It feels like the beginning of a hopeful new chapter.
