The films protagonist, Makhtumkuli Fragi, is a historical figure, a great Turkmen poet and thinker. Makhtumkuli lived and wrote in the mid-18th century. This film reflects the years the great poet spent in Uzbekistan, particularly his studies at the Kukeldash Madrasah in Bukhara and the Shergozi Khan Madrasah in Khiva, as well as the most important events of his life. Despite his youth, Makhtumkulis poetry became famous not only among the Turkmen but also the Uzbek people. The film depicts Makhtumkulis attitude toward life and people, his high moral character, his inner experiences, suffering and pain, and his desire for a profound study of both religious and secular sciences. It also reveals his friendliness, his desire for the unity of his people, and his immense love for his homeland. The film was shot for the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Makhtumkuli Fragi by the joint efforts of filmmakers from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
