The Good Person Of Szechwan

The Good Person Of Szechwan

ABOUT

“The Good Person of Szechwan” is one of Bertolt Brecht’s most influential plays, a work that helped redefine the direction of modern theatre. Known for its sharp interrogation of morality, goodness, and human survival within a complex social structure, the play strongly reflects Brecht’s epic theatre techniques, which encourage audiences to think rather than merely feel. It becomes a powerful medium to question injustice, inequality, and the very foundations of human values. For this reason, the play holds a special place in the tradition of socially conscious theatre. Furthermore, the Marathi adaptation of this play, “Devajine Karuna Keli,” originally adapted by Venkatesh Madgulkar and first staged by Vijaya Mehta, marked an important milestone on the Marathi stage. The upcoming production will be the first Marathi translated staging of the play on the contemporary Marathi theatre landscape, following Mehta’s iconic adaptation.
